Hey Phil-
I'm a practicing mechanical engineer that is studying for the patent bar. I'm using the materials found at patbar.com, which I think are great.
The material is broken down into 60 modules, with each module consisting of a taped lecture, written study guide, and test questions for each module.
It's much cheaper than other study guides.
Be warned that you'll encounter a lot of resistance from folks that tell you that mechanical engineering background is not compatible with drafting patents
and that you shouldn't waste your time unless you have a biochemisty or EE background. I think those claims are total crap because
mechnical engineers have the broadest technical base (aside from physics) covering materials, manufacturing, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc
plus our drafting skills and visualization are far superior to other disciplines.
I think a lot of these patent attorneys are insecure about their technical background and do what they can to discourage people with actual engineering
experience from entering their field!
If you're serious about this for a career, you'll have to go to law school.

: I am a licensed mechanical engineer and I have sucessfully patented 2 out of 2 patent applications and would now like to sit for the patent agent exam. Can anyone recommend a good book or study guide to study for the exam with. Thanks,

: Phil Van Herle, PE
