Nicole,
I am in nearly the same situation as you. If you scroll down and few posts you can read my post concerning interest in entering ip law from the chemistry bench. It seems to me that there is a lot of competition these days for jobs as technical specialists where you work for a firm using your scientific background and going to law school at night which is paid for by the firm. One thing I did is study for the patent bar. What it does is you find out if you enjoy learning about patent law and if you pass is an excellent resume builder. Of course another route is to go to law school then try to land a position as you seem to be thinking about. I have started to work with the ip attorney in our company to gain some experience. So there are several ways to go about entering the ip field...but the best way? That's a good question. I would like to land a full-time position myself. Maybe someone else who visits this board may be able to add some valuable insight. Good luck.

: Having decided to bail on bench science, I recently completed an MS degree in a biological science, and am considering going to law school. However, before jumping into this expensive endeavor, I would like to gain some valuable experience with the IP field. Any suggestions how I can go about this? All ideas are welcome!

: Thanks!
: Nicole
