I have had trouble with my employer, in that I came up with an invention and if it worked properly would have been very lucrative. Because of my contract all inventions belong to them, but I was hoping they would be fair and let me take the credit as sole inventor for my idea. They wanted their names on it and I had no way of proving otherwise (other than a messy court-case), also they promised me financial rewards but signed nothing. This patent turned out to be useless, but I am now aware of how they will act if the situation arises again.
Can I legally withhold an invention from them that I have not written down or used work time for and request a new contract before I tell them what it is???
