: This question has most likley been asked before but can an idea be patented without a working product or a detailed blue print?

Dear Scott,
Ideas are not patentable. If you have a concept that can be expressed in a tangible form, it may be patentable. The patent application is enough.

It must set forth enough detail so that someone skilled in the art can use the invention as disclosed in the patent once the patent has expired.

JUST getting a patent can be an expensive waste of money. There is a $100M+ a year scam getting people to file patent applications. Only one in ten thousand get back more than they pay.

A Reality CheckŪ screens inventions up front to save time, money and worry and or to find alteratives.
