i'm a pharmacist who went to good 2nd tier school and is now a 2L with some pretty good job offers in NYC and Boston in the area of patent law. Bottom line is that all law firms really care about is the school you went to and your grades. Grades, grades, grades. That being said, your degree will get you that second, third look. when I was in school I just listened to the people who said if you have a tech degree and a J.D. you're gold. Only true if you have decent grades. Now the advantage to having a tech. background is that instead of having to be top 10% for the reputable firms you can be top 20% and still get an interview and possibly a call-back. In any case, the top, top firm still look at school rankings and class rankings. They do have top tech students from top rank schools. Hope this helps. If I were you I would probably go to the top 50 school and work my ass off. Franklin Pierce has a good IP ranking, but figure there's a whole boatload of people that are competing with you in the same school w/ tech backgrounds. Lot more competition come recruitment time. You'll stand out a lot less.
