you can do a quick search by going to the USPTO office website at: http://164.195.100.11/netahtml/search-bool.html do technical keyword search to find any patents. do a company keyword search (assignee) to find owners. With or without doing the search, figure out exactly what the implementation you would employ for such a system, and get an opinion from a Patent Lawyer. If the Patent Lawyer says you would infringe you may need a license, stay with the lawyer. If the Patent lawyer tells you your idea is patentable, you could find a patent agent (usually a former practising engineer who now drafts, files and prosecutes patent applications) who may be less expensive and possibly more technical. There is no difference between an agent and an attorney practicing before the PTO as long as they are both registered and in good standing. Names of all registered practioners are listed on the PTO site, be sure to check. Get legal advice other than on the internet where you do not know who is "talking" to you.
