It's a well-known technique called "follow-up search". : best regards, : Thien Tran : With your permission to post this message Sir; : : ---------------- : : He mails a postcard to patent holder indicating their patent(s) is/are being cited in another patent and he/she should send for a copy of violating patent and $50 to order it, to: : : M. Myers : : Notice, above is a PO Box and no phone number is provided. : : The inventor who contacted me asked if he should mail $50. He did not realize it was a scam. His patent issued in 1999. When I looked at his patent on it was cited 4 "prior art" patents indicating persons who'd patented similar devices. All but one had expired (run its full term and expired - versus - non payment of maintenance fees etc). The only in-force patent was dissimilar enough not to be an issue. : : I hope inventors reading above do not fall for this scam if a postcard from the above imbecile arrives in mailbox. Dear Mr. Tran, I Believe you are Dead Wrong and that the $50 follow is 100% scam. There is practically no relationship with prosecution citation and infringement. The $50 is a big premium for a patent copy that can prove almost nothing. I have had client inquiries about this and have seen nothing to suggest legitimacy of the proceedure. M.
