Dentistry is not really what I thought it would be. Two years to go? You may be better off cutting your losses by going directly to law school. : Is there a market for someone who has a dental degree as well as a law degree? It's unlikely that you'd land in a patent job that works exclusively with dental products. You're more likely to use all parts of your basic science education (read: undergrad) in tackling all kinds of technology at first. Later on, you may move your way up into specializing in dental products, perhaps by working in-house at a dental products corporation. Because the main value of your technical background is in your undergrad years, adding 2 more years of dental school may not be the most efficient way of advancing a patent career. You'd also be accumulating 2 more years of dental debt, which may not be as productive as a comparable 2 years of legal debt. (This is assuming that you've given up on dentistry as a career). Instead, I'd start talking to as many patent attorneys as I could to see if this is something I'd like to do. You might find that it suffers from the similar downsides as dentistry, so be careful before embarking on a sudden shift in career.
