The only comment I have to add is that a patent must list the correct inventors to be enforceable. If RStephens was an inventor (as determined legally) and Company A obtains a patent that omits his name, then the patent wouldn't be enforceable against anyone. But this scenario wouldn't arise without a lot of legal wrangling and negotiation going on.
