: I have an idea, but i was reading below and someone said Costs for a patent can be broken down into two catagories, professional fees and USPTO fees. Like all professional services, shop your business around to several attorneys in different regions of the country (patent law is federal law and any registered patent attorney or agent may represent you before the USPTO), maybe even request a flat fee quote, then pick the attorney you feel most comfortable with. There are also new services on the web where you may post an Request for Proposal/Bid on a Website and then sift through several different proposed bids. Try the Patent Cafe (www.patentcafe.com) for more information and a link to the website mentioned above. Mike
