: I have an idea, but i was reading below and someone said Dear Stacy Davis, The basic Government Filing Fee starts at $355. It is not a question of what you pay. I have heard of people charging as little at $1500 for preparing an application. A complex professionally done application has no upper limit. If you don't pay much you may still even get a patent. Just getting a patent does not guarantee that you get the protection that you need. There is a $100M+ per year scam getting people to file patent applications. One in ten thousand make more than they pay. I had a recent inquiry where the client used a Registered Patent Lawyer, paid a total of $8000, including prosecutions costs and official fees. The patent gave away the technology and was so limited that even if the patent were good, any new practioner could figure legitimate way of acheiving the same result without infringing the patent. M.
