As long as you performed your method in secret and not in public, then you can still get protection for it. But if you performed your method where there was public access, then you're out of luck. The reference for this is Chisum 3.05(2)(a), if you need it.

As for the food itself, you've probably had it in public, so it'd be very hard to get protection for it.

It sounds like you have a situation where you need to discuss the details confidentially with a patent attorney before you could move forward.
