Your name will appear in the application and patent as a formality, but it will be owned by your employer. But this "work for hire" principle does not apply when your invention is outside the scope of your job. In other words, an employer can't claim blanket ownership of everything you invent, even on your off hours. Many companies have patent incentives built into their employment contracts. So that's the first place I would look. If not, why not talk to your H.R. person to see if you can get a small program started. If you have enough clout, you could renegotiate for a percentage of your employeer's net royalties, but this is pretty rare.
