Ask how long they've been in business, how many cases they manage, how many they've lost and so on. : I am a partner of CPA (to declare an interest), but I would recommend them anyway (as would many UK attorneys) because they are managed by patent attorneys who are also in operational command - I don't know if the other outfits have that level of involvement.
