It's a matter of choice - if you're shopping around, as far as I know CPA, CPI and Dennemeyer are the market leaders.

But - these are important assets, so be satisfied with the quality of service. Ask how long they've been in business, how many cases they manage, how many they've lost and so on.

I am a partner of CPA (to declare an interest), but I would recommend them anyway (as would many UK attorneys) because they are managed by patent attorneys who are also in operational command - I don't know if the other outfits have that level of involvement. But I've also heard comments like yours about them - and indeed about most of these outfits.

Good luck!

: Dear sirs

: I am looking to directly register my companies patent
: portfolio with a renewal service provider. However,
: there seems to be quite a few of them and I was
: wondering if somebody could recommend which ones
: provide the best service? We are a small laser
: component manufacturing company situated in Cambridge
: in the UK with around 40 patents which need to be
: renewed almost worldwide. A couple of local agents
: have recommended Computer Patent Annuities (CPA), but
: I have also heard that they are expensive and
: inflexible.

: I would be really interested to hear any views anyone
: has on the subject.
