: : : : : I have been looking at some of the messages in the forum and I have found that many of the questions have gone unanswered.... I hope that this is not in vain....
: : : : : How do you obtain a patent pending? Does obtaining a US patent protect from someone in another country making or produycing a prodoct outside the US? And if not can this person import that product into the US for sale? Last but not least is it terribly difficult to obtain your own patent without the use of an attorney?
: : : : : Thanks

: : : : Dave,
: : : : Please refer to Matt's question about this same subject. I can tell you this, do not try to attempt getting a patent without a PATENT attorney! It is a really tricky affair, trust me.
: : : : Anyway, good luck!
: : : I am a lawyer specially registered to practice before the Patent and Tradmark Office. Patents are expensive and just getting a patent does not in any way assure the protection that is desired. I start with a Reality Check for which I charge a small fee, less than a patent search. I've been doing this for many years. I don't charge for the inquiry about the Reality Check.
: : I'm not sure how this works. I can be reached by email at aus@auslander.com or 2125946900

: : : : Dave, it is nice that you have a site but it is not any help to the education of students. What does it mean to have a patent pending? Can you answer that one?

Dear DJ,

Patent Pending only means that a patent application has been filed. It does not even mean that the patent will issue.
