Not every good idea is protectable yet there still may be ways to do something. One must be careful not to divulge the idea except confidentially to protect against loss of rights or others taking advantage of you.
I recommend to my clients that they conduct a Reality Check, since it might save time money or both. The Reality Check goes into what can be done, how it can be done and the realisitc way of proceeding with or without statutory proection. There are also scams that take advantage of creative people. It is a $100,000,000 a year industry. One group took 25 year to be put out of business, had 30,000 clieints only three of whom made more money then they paid.
