: I have a friend who would like to file a paten for an invention and we don't have the faintest idea on how to do it. I guess I need to know where to go and what to do. He lives in michigan and I live in Florida. Is there a local place that may be where I need to go. Like the courthouse or secretary of state?

Dear Julie Nalette,

Patents are national. You might find a Resister Patent lawyer in the yellow pages.

What is more important is whether you need a patent and if you had one would it give the protection that you need.

There may be alterntives, including doing nothing.
We start with a Reality Check (sm) to save time money and worry.

There is a $100M+ a year scam getting people to file patent applications. It is one in ten thousand that get back more than they pay.

No one can guarantee that you are going to make make money but a careful evaluation of what you have may give you a better chance and and save time, money and worry.
