: I am a junior in college majoring in chemical engineering and had some question about patent law as
I too am in college right now and considering patent law. I went to a law school when they had an open house for potential canidates, I went straight to ip and pantent dept.... They ask that you have work experience in the field so you know what you are talking about. Also so you understand the nuts and bolts of the industry... they asked something like 3yrs in that field. As far as starting salaries for patent lawyers average over the us was 85-100k the first year out of law school. This sounds like a ton of money but those first few years you really work for it..... you know those 50-60-70 hour weeks. If your married hope your wife supports you. The first year of law school you cannot work at all! Thats right not at all, and the second year at most part time. The bar exam itself is a whole other ball game as far as taking the exam is concerned.....anyway I say go for it! I am a comp sci major so my area will be hardware and software patents... I love computers so I will fit right in. If you had anymore questions feel free to email me
