: Despite being a law student I really do not know very much about patenting. My question is can you patent a new sport?
: thank you
: Julia Pearson

Dear Julia,
When I went to law school, there were things to learn about common law rights in trademarks and unfair competition but nothing about patents.

Games, such as board games may be copyrighted or even patented. I am not aware of protection for a new sport. Would need more info.

If you divulge or use an invention before the first patent application is filed, you lose most valid international rights.
