About SlipChip Corporation:
SlipChip Corporation is a next generation microfluidics company with a proprietary platform that offers a wide range of capabilities for traditional and limited-resource settings. Capabilities include: highly quantitative and multiplexed digital measurements of nucleic acids and proteins; digital real-time measurements; fully automated sample preparation; genotyping; isolation of difficult to culture organisms; and detection with mobile devices. We are seeking candidates who want to work on diverse and highly complex intellectual property prosecution and freedom to operate analyses. Candidates should be creative, self-directed, and enjoy working with highly motivated people in a collaborative and friendly environment.
Lead prosecution efforts with support from a nationally prominent IP law firm. Candidate must quickly grow to understand IP portfolio at a highly nuanced level.
Lead ongoing freedom-to-operate analysis that considers both issued and pending patent applications. Advise the R&D team accordingly.
Lead or support license negotiations for new IP with universities or other institutions, as required from time to time.
Collaborate with University partners on technology transfer activities.
Manage IP budget and set priorities for investment in intellectual property.
Offer legal support for general corporate matters, depending upon availability of time given other priorities.
Preference for a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Microfluidics or related field. Ideal candidate will also have some experience with devices or with engineering. Candidate should demonstrate very deep scientific understanding in core area and an ability to rapidly acquire and apply new knowledge.
Four plus years experience at a prominent law firm with focus on intellectual property prosecution or highly relevant work as an in-house IP counsel in the fields listed above is critical.
The environment requires ability to work collaboratively with leading scientists from major universities and our own outstanding internal team. Communication skills are critical.
Travel is expected to be less than 5 days per month. However, candidate should be prepared to travel as needed, whether to the USPTO or to visit with university collaborators.
