Job Description: The regional law firm of Smith Moore Leatherwood, LLP seeks an experienced Intellectual Property Patent Legal Secretary experienced in patent prosecution for its Charlotte, NC office.
Responsibilities Include:
• document creation, including typing, editing and proofreading, attorney client billing and expense reports;
• Prepare and file Amendments in response to Non-Final and Final office actions;
• Preparing, coordinating, and filing patent applications with the USPTO, outside counsel, and associates/agents;
• Daily review of critical docket reports, completion of IDS’s, Declarations, Assignments and other formal papers for the USPTO, along with electronic PTO filings, as requested;
• Prepare and report formalities papers: i.e., Notice of Allowances, Official Filing Receipts, Notice of Abandonments, Advisory Actions, Issue Notifications, and Letters Patents;
• Ensuring legal documents are processed and handled in a timely and efficient manner in order to comply with appropriate USPTO regulations and deadlines;
• Maintaining a close working relationship with patent attorneys and technical specialists to prepare and file formal documents for US and International filings;
• Maintain mail, calendars, schedule travel, answer telephones and direct calls, and act as liaison between attorney and clients;
• Process new business and new matter paperwork; and
• Ability to support multiple attorneys and coordinate with other offices within the Firm.
Requirements:
At least 7+ years of experience in the area of patent prosecution with strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to work under pressure, be detailed oriented, be highly organized in prioritizing tasks for efficient, accurate and timely work completion. Be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and MS Outlook, have experience with document management systems, and a typing speed of 70+ wpm. Understanding of Patent docketing procedures and systems beneficial (PATTSY or equivalent).
