Bioformix is looking for an experienced patent attorney to join their team. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Intellectual Property Management Attorney (IPMA) will be part of a team of outside patent professionals involved in patent acquisition and prosecution. Strong patent skills and technological breadth in organic chemistry, biochemistry, polymer chemistry and chemical process engineering as well as chemical and polymer applications, including adhesives, sealants, coatings, binders, composites, inks, films, molded plastics, laminations and the like are key requirements. The IPMA will work closely with business managers and technology managers and staff in the development and management of a large patent portfolio. The IPMA must possess good management and interpersonal skills, be a self-starter, and able to integrate well with the business and outside legal teams.

Responsibilities:

• Direct and assist the company and it’s outside patent legal counsel with the strategic management of patent prosecution in wide technical areas.
• Work with legal and business team members to resolve IP issues.
• Assist in the analysis, review and evaluation of the quality, cost-effectiveness and scope of work performed by outside patent counsel.
• Assist in the review and analysis of new technologies.
• Assist in the management of US and foreign patent applications, over varied time zones.
• Manage copyright and other brand related intellectual property rights.
• Handle secrecy agreements and the like.
• Coordinate licensing and other intellectual property transactions.

Key Qualifications:

• J.D. degree from a reputable, American Bar Association accredited law school.
• PhD. (preferred), M.S. required in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Biocemistry with related engineering experience.
• Registered to practice before US Patent and Trademark Office.
• Admitted to Ohio State Bar (or another State Bar).

Work Qualifications:

• At least 8 years experience as a intellectual property and patent attorney in private practice, with primary emphasis on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in electrical engineering technologies.
• Excellent English communication and writing skills.
• Excellent organizational skills a must.
• Proven track record of managing a large docket of cases.
• Experience in Asia, or Asian language skills, an advantage.

Required demonstrated skills and abilities:
• US prosecution experience including extensive drafting and prosecution.
• Non-US (Foreign) prosecution including PCT and EP prosecution experience.
• Familiarity with U.S. Technology Export Regulations (Non-US a plus).
• In-house experience or other experience managing attorneys
• Broad technical or business knowledge of electronic circuits, electro-mechanical systems, electromagnet or optical systems, telecommunications, software, physics, semiconductor devices and materials.
