By acquiring patents, RPX helps to mitigate and manage patent risk for its growing client network.

The Director of Client Relations will act as the primary contact between RPX and its clients and will be responsible for managing all ongoing communication with those clients. The ultimate goal of the Client Relations team is to retain our membership. Renewing membership agreements is essential to the ongoing success of RPX; this will require the ability to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with executives across all levels of our clients’ organizations and consistently demonstrate the value delivered by RPX on an ongoing basis.

• Effective and continual communication of RPX’s value proposition
• Work effectively across different functional RPX teams; specifically, client relations will work very closely with the acquisition, business development, legal, finance, marketing, and corporate development teams
• Develop and maintain a tailored, two-way, structured communication process with each client designed to:

o Establish member ROI and communicate other value drivers that will lead to renewal
o Provide data on all patent acquisition opportunities and engage client feedback on how they view their risk profile relative to those opportunities
o Collect intelligence from clients on what actions they are taking to manage their patent risks and costs
o Discuss future new services and discuss potential participation in pilot programs
o Share general patent market intelligence and information
o Acquire referrals to peer companies to join RPX’s client network

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate is a dynamic professional experienced in the patents space who will bring credibility, a proven track record of success, and exceptional interpersonal skills to ensure trusted, long-term client relationships and contribute to ongoing revenue generation for the company. A balanced approach to business expansion and client relationship management couple with a collaborative nature are necessary for success.

Specifically, the ideal candidate would demonstrate the following competencies:
• Technical and legal aptitude; a keen understanding of the technology industry and patent landscape; ability to discuss this information with a high level of credibility
• Intellectual capacity to comprehend, distill, and communicate business concepts and legal and technical details
• Proven track record of generating revenue via corporate strategic sales and/or business development
• Demonstrated track record as a strategic thinker, creative problem-solver and solutions-provider
• Proficient in sound business expansion and long-term relationship management techniques
• Ability to read people and understand unique client needs, think strategically about how to interact with clients, and easily adjust as necessary to fit the culture/style of each client
• Client-focused and results-oriented with ability to develop and foster relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally
• Willingness to adapt to the many changing requirements/needs of a fast-growing, young company
• Collaborative work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented culture
• Ability to work with virtual, global teams

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• 10+ years business development, technology transfer, and/or patent experience with demonstrated understanding of the issues involved in negotiating patent/licensing agreements
• 5+ years demonstrated success in client-facing roles supporting senior sales executives on client acquisition activities including: opportunity assessment and qualification, engagement strategy, and contract negotiation
• Deep industry experience and expertise in Networking or one or more of the following areas: Semiconductors, E-commerce, Software, Telecommunications/Mobile Communications and handsets/devices, Consumer electronics, and/or PCs

PREFERRED EDUCATION
• Undergraduate degree (BA/BS), MBA preferred, and strong academic record from a top college or university
• JD Degree
