Can I Use a Team Name on a T-shirt?

I realize this has probably been discussed a million times but I couldn't find a direct answer.  I want to make a few t-shirts and sell them on Ebay.  The would be using the the team name on them, however it is not in any way resembling the actual team's logo or script name.

For instance, is the word "Cubs" or "Brewers" trademarked?  Hypothetically, if I made a shirt that said "Go Chicago Cubs!" or "Go Milwaukee Brewers!" would that be infringement?

These are just basic t-shirts with some clever phrases on them and the team's name.  No MLBP fabric or any other type of logo.  Advice?  Oh yeah...I'd also like to have a players' name and number on the back.

Thanks in advance!
