Patent Pending To Granted

How long on average does it take for a patent that is pending, provisional or application, until the patent is granted under smooth circumstances and then under average circustances.

Does it matter what tpye of patent it is?

I want to know the numbers for mechanical or machine  type patents such as a patent for a metal nail would be.

Thank you

U.S. or some other country?  Yes, it depends on the subject matter of the application, because different "art units" deal with different subject matters and have different pendencies.

Taking a SWAG, I'd say a metal nail kind of patent application would take 16-22 months if "smooth" (i.e., first action allowance) and probably more like 24-28 months with a one action case.  That is optimistic, and four to five years is not unusual--longer for some arts.
