Title: Indian Patent Exam
Post by islaah on May 29th, 2006, 5:01am
Hi - these forums are a revelation.
I am currently in the Gulf as a IP assistant.

Keen to give the Sept, Indian Patent examination. Can anyone recommend the books, study material or even better solved old question paper.

I have with me the complete Patent resource material for the US Bar exam. The Cds are great and along with the study material it makes a useful resource.

Download and study the MPEP from the following link:

http://www.patentoffice.nic.in/ipr/patent/manual-2052005.pdf

For specific acts and rules, read the patent act 1970 and patent amendment rules 2006.

You can purchase a book of 'The Patent Act 1970 (Published by Universal's, for information - visit ww.unilawbooks.com)

Study MPEP, various sections and rules including forms used for various purposes, formats of PoA, petitions, licensing agreement.

If you study the above things and have at least a minimum knowledge of drafting a patent application, you should be able to easily pass the exam.

Thanks Ram and Nv.

I have begun my studies  from the Patent Act, 1970 and would follow it up with the MPEP.

Another colleague recommended to enrol for the online course from http://www.brainleague.com/offering.htm. It cost 7000 INR/ Do you think its worth?

Also, there is no info on the scheduled Indian Patent exam in September on the Indian Patent office website. Do keep me updated on that, in case i miss the deadline for filling forms etc.

There is no any specific book for drafting, it is all the matter of practice so you can learn by reading the patent documents and try to draft your self any dummy patent for your confidence.

In 2006, the exam was held twice: in Apr and Oct. In 2007, exam was held in Apr. The site doesn't say anywhere when is the next exam. So, all that people like me can do is wait.  :-/

I took the patent agent exam in April 2007. The results were out yesterday and unfortunately i did not clear the exam.

I was pretty shocked. I believe i did very well on the exam after working on all previous years question papers in addition to the manuals etc. I was also able to answer all the questions in the viva voce. Does any one know if there is any other criteria. I am currently working in a patent group in the software industry, could that have acted against me???
