2 things -  Eric have you tried Mogambo ?? If so, what was your experience?

Two, I know that Mogambo has an extensive database, access to EAST and STN.  My firm sent a complex pharmacology/organic chem search, a EE Optics search and a FTO in the Oil Exploration area - they turned these around in 10business days and were 30% cheaper than Landon's quote!

Yes, Intellevate is based in India and have heard mixed reviews about the quality.  Landon is a well known company but they are very expensive -- having sent 3 searches to Mogambo - my firm is extremely satisified.

You could also try out SciTech Patent Art. One of the most reputed firms in India.

I believe they all have their strengths...it really depends on the type of searches you need done and the technological areas.  Not to make your decision more difficult but you may also want to consider Gary Odom of Patent Hawk (http://www.patenthawk.com/).

Best of luck,

Hmm... just a random question from someone starting to get into the patent field: as a patent agent/attorney, do you often conduct your own prior art searches for your clients, or is it typical to send them out to one of these mentioned companies?

i usually conduct my own prior art searches if there are simple technology. for more complex requests, such as invalidation or clearance, i typically farm out to a search firm. the reason being these types of search take a considerable amount of time, and i (as would my clients) prefer i spent my billable time on the opinion rather than search.

ive used landon and magambo and was extremely satisfied with both.
