Bolding FIGs and Numerals in Word Doc

I'm writing my first application, and I noticed that in published applications the numerals and FIG numbers are in bold type.

Is this something that happens automatically when an application is published (ie, taken care of by the PTO), or am I supposed to do this when I file the app?

If I'm supposed to do this, is there an easy way in Microsoft Word to have it done automatically (ie, not have to control-B before & after each time)?

Thx.

The PTO does that automatically -- I never bold my reference numerals.  They even bold other numbers -- like 512 bytes per block.  I actually find it annoying -- wouldn't mind so much if they limited themselves to bolding reference numerals and maybe Figure numbers too.

Regards.
