Title: Should I visit the Patent and Trademark Office?
Post by Gauge on Jun 29th, 2007, 11:21am
I am going to be in the Arlington/D.C. area in a couple of weeks for a patent CLE and am considering visiting the PTO in Alexandria.  Has anyone ever done this before?  Is it worth my time?  Any recommendations?  I have a total of about one day to sight see so I want to use my time wisely.

Why would you want to visit the PTO if you are not working there.  Go spend your time taking a tour of the Smithsonian instead, it'll be more educational.

The USPTO has a small museum, and it might be worth seeing if you're working in IP.  (It was closed when I was up there for the Inventor's Conference last September, so I can't say from firsthand experience.)

I'd have to agree that the Smithsonian would be more interesting if you've only got one day, though.

I am leaning towards the Smithsonian and some other attractions.  I just wanted to see if there was any real value to me, as a patent attorney, in visiting the PTO.

Well, they do sell shirts embroidered with the USPTO logo.  ;D
