Title: cold cover letter
Post by sandnbb on Oct 21st, 2006, 11:08pm
I have a list of law firms that I would like to submit my resume to, but none of them have openings for a patent agent position.  My plan is to send out cold cover letters and address them to the partners of the firms.  Can anybody please provide some insights on this approach?  Should I call to follow up?  Thanks in advance.

Maybe you should try a cold call first, and then follow up with a resume and cover letter directed to the person you spoke to.  You could also ask for an informational interview.  Partners at big firms may be too busy for this and ignore it or it may get lost under a pile, perhaps you could call/send it to someone in the department you want to work for who has the position you are looking for.
