I have an interview for a Patent Agent position. I have a Ph.D and passed the patent bar exam. I do not have experience drafting patents. What questions can I expect at the interview.

Questions:

1. Why do you want to do patent law?

2. Can you show me a sample of your technical writing?

3. Are you considering going to law school?

4. What areas of expertise do you have?

5. How many hours a week do you expect to work?

6. Why do we need a PhD?

I got all these.  Practice your answers and be honest.  Good luck!

How do you train people?  Are there any educational resources?  Are there any meetings with all the lawyers and patents, etc?  How do people interact?

How is new work allocated?
How is your billing structure set up?
How many new associates have you hired in the past year?  3 years?
What is the ratio of support staff to associates?
Will I be under the direction of a particular partner?
Do you like your job?

That last one is my favorite.  One of our secretaries asked the interviewer that.  She said no!  Cheesy
