I've posted a lot on this forum over the past few years and it's always been helpful, so I'm looking for some more good advice from you guys... I graduated in may from a good pharmacy school with my Pharm D in May. Started a T4 law school on Monday and dropped out on Tuesday! (Now I'm "gonna lead a life of crime" -ACDC. It just hit me all of a sudden that I already lived in the lib. for 6 years, can't do it for 3 more. I'm still interested in patent law, but I don't know if I can do all the writing and reading that is involved after memorizing biochemistry structures and mechanisms of action for so long. I was offered a pharmacy position where I work graveyard shift for $110,000/year plus a $10,000 sign on bonus. I will work 7 on and then have 7 off. Financially speaking and QOL speaking, did I make the right decision? I have been sick to my stomach all week about this. I decided that if i get our by the end of the week I can get 80% of my money back so that is what I did. I still may get into studying for the Patent Bar and easing into the field as a patent agent during my weeks off. Please lay your wisdom down upon I disagree. Thanks Seacrest out!

It's hard to judge financially where you would be, but it isn't clear that graduating from a lower ranked law school would necessarily have positioned you to make enough money to cover 3 years without pay plus the cost of law school. Don't agonize over your decision. You're doing fine.

My dad is a pharmacist and has been for 30 years now. He pulls in around 120k at a good size hospital in Alabama. He has done both day shifts and night shifts. For the last 15 years or so he has done the week on/week off night thing and loves it. The best part about it is that if he takes a week vacation he is off for three weeks, which is quite a perk. The bad part, obviously, is that you're a zombie for half the month. Doubt you'll ever make more than 130k (not certain), but depending on where you live that should be fine. Also, if you open your own pharmacy, the $$$ could go higher.

You have to do what is right for you. If you enjoy the pharmacy work, then build on it. Figure out a way to go up in it, owning your own business or whatever. You would likely make more in the patent field if you make it to partner, 7 years or so after graduation. You would want to decide if you can handle a relatively high stress desk job with constant multiple simultaneous deadlines, many of which are unextendable, the likelihood of multiple bosses with big egos who each require a different writing style, and reading and writing all day long. And even after you make it to partner, you will likely have to periodically butt heads with other partners who have big egos and are sure they are right, with respect to business decisions such as whether to hire, whether to grow, how much overhead is too much, etc.
