I just came to know that if I work as an independent contractor, I need to have my own malpractice insurance. Can someone give me some information about this. Thanks.

I don't have any actual experience, but I am guessing that if you are the one signing your name as the practitioner who is submitting the application to the USPTO, you will be held responsible for it, otherwise it will be the firms responsibility with which you are contracting to properly revise the document before signing and prosecuting it.
