Compensation for part-time advisor/law student

Generally speaking what is the compensation like for a part-time law student/part-time scientific advisor.  I'm in law school now (1L), but my career office has said this is a possible alternative.  I realize it'll vary based on market/experience, but ball-park is good enough.

Also, if the firm pays for school, usually how long are you expected to work for them after graduation?

Any thoughts on if it's worth it?

Thanks!

from what I gather, it works more like full-time sci. advisor, P/T law student.

In those cases, I have heard the comp. is pretty good, from 50-60K or more depending on where you are.

I don't think you are given a time-frame in terms of how long you "must" stay at the firm after getting your J.D., but if they foot the bill, I would think it appropriate to stay on as an associate for at least a few years. I know that in some firms, the time you spend there as a student can count toward consideration for partnership and other perks, so it's worth staying.

Any input from those who've done this? Let's hear it!
