I came across a relevant posting on in the "misc.int-property" newsgroup:

I am currently in my second year of law school at a well known Tier 2
school in Los Angeles.  My grades are decent--Top 10%.  I have a BS and
MS in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and have about 2 years
work experience.  …all of these firms pay the same base salary of
$135,000.  Some firms also offer starting bonuses, particularly to patent
  lawyers,…about $10k.

Anymore information would be appreciated regarding this subject--Technology specialist salaries

I've interviewed at a few law firms and I'm waiting to hear back from them.  I'd like to know appropriate salaries for this position.  I've been told as the previous posts stated that technology specialist in large firms make $80,000 -90,000 regardless of geographical location---regardless of whether the large firms are in Boston, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, DC,  etc.  Is this true and does this salary range sound correct?

Thank you!

Hi,
I am finishing my PhD in chemistry (materials science).

Just like SeanUMD I am planning to start applying for law firms, start studying for patent bar exam, and eventually go to part time law school. Any comments about this plan?

Also, any tips on how to prepare for those interviews given that I have no background/knowledge about this field (apart from reading patents for my research)?

Any inputs will be highly appreciated.

Thanks
