Is your plan to attend a US law school to obtain a JD.  Do you
have an immigration status that will allow you to take the
patent bar and work in the US.

If the answer to those questions is yes, I think your opportunities
are at least as good as anyone else's.  If additionally you
can read and write well in two languages, you would have opportunities
that others do not have.

Interesting... Is it considered to be an advantage if one speaks in more than one language? Well, in general certainly yes... but for the IP work would it be a big plus to be mother tongue german in contrast to maybe fluent in italian (I have never seen a patent written in Italian...)?

Thanks. Chem.

I think the fact that someone would have more opportunities if he/she were bilingual seems pretty obvious. Isaac didn't measure the new opportunities that would be available, but there certainly would always be some.  Maybe more for German, less for Italian, etc....

The fact that the OP is from China seems like it could be a big advantage going forward. IP has to change in China, and to be on the forefront of that movement with a JD could be good.

These are all just some musings of my own...  Smiley

Even if IP does not change within China, I'd expect that Chinese
companies would become increasingly interested in filing applications
elsewhere including withing the US.  Is such an assumption really that
far out there?

I am not saying their will be a huge demand for Chinese speaking
patent attorneys within the US, but whatever the demand, I
won't be a candidate for such a position.
