What are my odds of getting into law school?

I graduated from a top 50 engineering school in the U.S. with a double BS in EE and CpE with around a 3.0 GPA. I also graduated with a MSEE from the same school with around a 3.3 GPA while working full-time. I also have attended an IP law curriculum for 1 semester (no formal degree, just a program) at a top 20 law school and top 10 engineering school. And by the time, I apply to law school, I will have 3 years of engineering work experience and 1 year patent prosecution experience (I work at an IP law firm now as a patent agent.). I am looking at T1 schools particularly UC Hastings (#36) and UCLA (#15). Thoughts? TIA

I am the poster above. I just don't want to register right now. Also, suppose that I have LSAT scores equivalent to the median range required by those schools.

Check out lawschoolnumbers dot com. You can compare your creditials with others who have applied to these schools and see where they were accepted and decided to attend. You might also check out lawschooldiscussion dot org, or top-law-schools dot com as these are boards specifically interested in law school admission.

Sounds like you have great experience, but to assume your LSAT score is the median of either of those schools is to make a seemingly random assumption for the crux of the issue in your question. LSAT matters considerably more than GPA -- typically a 4 : 2.5 ratio, but this varies quite a bit from school to school. If you happen to get the median score for a school, it better be a splitter-friendly school, like NU, WUSTL, UIUC, et al -- otherwise, not much chance. Like the above poster suggested, try out those sites. They're very useful. Also, lsac dot org provides a chance range calculator for each school based on an LSAT and GPA you specify.

I was a BSME with a 3.8 GPA and a 160 LSAT (below median) and I didn't get into University of Michigan, though my denial was about 2 weeks short of the deadline, so I think I was reasonably close.
I was straight from University however.
Your GPA is not great, but I think many things might be able to make up for it, the fact that you work at an IP firm mostly. I think this will help, but not absolutely make up for the GPA. You'll probably need a much high LSAT, higher then mine, maybe mid-160's, because of the lack of GPA. I think schools understand to a certain extent that your program was difficult, but to the same point if you are gunning for T1 they will be picky about GPA.
Again this is all speculation, but you'll never know for sure. Either way it's obvious you are going to need a high LSAT to make up for that GPA - work experience or not.
