Billable hours for technology specialist

Hi, I went to an interview for the technology specialist position last month, the partner told me that the required billable hours quota is 1865 hours per year, which as he put it, is about 7.5 hours/day. Prior to the interview I spoke to him on the phone and I told him that my salary range is from 65 to 70. After the interview I felt that I had low balled myself. My question is, what is the typical billable hours quota for technology specialist in DC area, and what is the salary range? I have a B.S. in Molecular Genetics and a M.S. in Bioinformatics. I also have five years of research experience and two years of work experience in a major IT company. Thanks!

billable quota is usually the same for everyone in the firm, and 1865 isn't so bad, it's on the easy side. it's 7.5 hours a day, not taking into account any vacation time, but this doesn't mean you'll be working 7.5 hours a day, be ready to deal with 10-12 hour days at least. You definitely lowballed yourself on the salary, but not by much. You could have probably safely asked for 75-80 to start, but you can always renegotiate when you start making headway in your work.

Thank you, I currently make 83K in the IT field so I hope I won't be too far off from that. Another question: How much does a patent agent make?
