Doing hundreds, if not thousands, of questions over and over and over...

There are so many things that the patent agent exam can test you on, but there are a finite number of ways multiple choice tests can be administered. I would not recommend brute force memorization. (Not saying that it could not be done...) I focused on how questions are asked and how to use the electronic MPEP and I passed with no problems.

I took a heavy courseload of IP law in law school. Worked for 2 years as an attorney at a patent prosecution firm. Took the live PRG prep course. Did about 600 questions from the ExamWare software that came with PRG. Memorized the 02 and 03 tests. And reviewed the Working Papers from PRG.

I took the Thurs and Friday off before my test (on Monday) and studied hard for those four days up to the exam. Overall, I studied about 70 hours or so (not including the PRG class).
