Just sufficient? Even though Physics is one of the most versatile subjects available?

I did not say *just* sufficient. I said sufficient. I cannot vouch for anything beyond that as the degree preference will vary greatly among firms. In a large number of cases, the applied-science nature of an engineering degree more strongly relates to real-world inventions than the theoretical nature of a hard science degree. This deficiency (for lack of a better term) can be overcome by a bright individual (preferably one with industry experience) quite easily.
