Just started PLI... worth it to watch DVD?

Or can I simply listen to the CD's that are supplied? The nice thing about the CD's is that I can throw them onto the MP3 player and listen while looking at the work book. I don't see much use staring at John White's mug for 50 hours. I guess my question should be, is there anything constructive shown while watching the DVD's? Does he ever use a chalk board or display diagrams on the DVD's?
I'm not complaining about the course. I am actually impressed. It should get me through the exam. Just trying to make it work for me.
