Old review course a waste of time?

My friend took the patent bar back in 2002, before it changed format, and is willing to lend me his old review course (I can't remember which course he took). Has the test changed so much that taking this course would be a waste of my time? I can't afford $1000 for a new course. Could the old course supplemented with independent study of recent changes be enough? Also - I have an MSEE and BS physics, but no relevant work experience to speak of. It's been 4 years since I finished grad school. What do you think would be my chances of finding work? Thanks a lot! Bob

You could probably use most of it to study - but I would make sure that you are aware of the changes in more recent editions. Certainly, make sure that you study from Revision 4 of the MPEP - 8th ed. I studied mostly from a review course with an outline of the current material and test questions from Bullseye Patent Prep. http://www.patentbarexamprep.com/gallery1.html I didn't have much $$ either, so that material fit the bill. also, check out http://patentbarquestions.com I think you'll be in good shape after all that

I used the program you refer to - Bullseye patent bar prep. I found it to be a great program and collection of materials. I'm still studying with it now. Fingers are crossed that I pass on the first try.

I took the exam when it was in the previous format. Then, studying was knowing how to get through the old questions and becoming familiar with how to answer unfamiliar new questions. I imagine that a decent question bank and time will ensure a first time pass as well.
