If you have worked as an examiner for 3 years, taken the certification exam (an internal exam at the PTO you can take as gs11 and must take to get to gs13 - basically the same as the agent exam but only 50 questions) and received a letter from your SPE then you get your registration number when you leave the Office.

I meant get a letter from your SPE saying you are in good standing, not received a letter from SPE.

Okay to expand on this....As an examiner that takes and passes the Patent Bar.....what does that mean exactly?

Is there a title associated with that milestone that will mean anything to anyone at a Law Firm that specializes in Intellectual Property Law?

Passing the patent bar counts as passing that certification exam required to be a GS13 and I believe it also eliminates otherwise required recertificiation.

Further, upon leaving the PTO you get your registration number.   I think the benefit of that is obvious.
