From most of the posts on this forum I've gathered that EE patent law is hot right now.  But EE is a very broad field.  My question i, is it just the EE degree that firms look for or do they want to see a concentration in a ceritain area of EE ie Control Systems, Electromagnetics, Power and Energy, Bio & Acousitcs, Signal Processing.  Any insight is appreciated.

Depends on for whom you work. I see microwave antenna, electronic data circuits for communication devices and an occasional laser system where I am. Complete the EE degree and keep your eyes open. I would guess that the industry grant money pumped into your university is an indicator of what is important.
