Top ten ways to get into patent law

Con: No experience.

Pro: Ph.D. in pharmacology-check, 5 1st author peer-reviewed publications-check, USPTO exam-check, enrollment in a good law school w/patent law coursework ongoing-check.

Presumably some of the people posting here are actually working in patent law.  I have a few ideas but I would like more on ways to get experience.

Anyone have a "top ten" ways to get into patent law-ie when the big dogs (large firms) are not willing to hire?

Maybe something like:
1) work at the USPTO
2) work at a local university
3) attend Chicago interview program
4) join AIPLA and attend annual meeting
5) the usual internet search of law firms/companies seeking a patent agent
6) intern at a gov't agency like the EPA, etc.
7) volunteer
8) I
9) ran
10) out?

any advice?

I don't have a list, but the number one way to get into patent law when large firms are not hiring you is to apply to smaller firms.

Well at least it is a response.

I guess was just looking for things I had not thought of, of course small firms were something I did think of.

Isaac, are you a patent agent or lawyer and did you start in a small firm?

Thanks.

I'm a patent attorney at a firm in DC.   I started out doing overflow work for a couple of solo practitioners.   I've also worked as a PTO examiner and as an associate at a small firm.

Oh, ok.

So Isaac your advice would be to use something like the martindale site or personal contacts to find an entry spot in a small firm?

Thanks.
