Patent Litigation

The facts:
My goal is to work in patent litigation. I passed the patent bar almost a year ago but haven't had an opportunity to do any patent related work.  Currently, I am working as a clerk for a firm that does a great deal of litigation in non-IP areas and it looks like it will turn into a full time associate position after I graduate.

Question:
Assuming I cannot get a job with a firm that does patent work after I graduate from law school this year, would it be better to stay with my current job and try to make a lateral move to a patent law firm or should I go work for the USPTO?
