So is it possible to get frozen out of patent law? I mean what if hypothetically OF COURSE you made the mistake of doing a postdoc for a famous Chinese scientist and he is actually a racist and moves to Big Pharma and hires only the Chinese that were working in his lab and then you decide to go to law school-find a top 30 evening program pass the patent agent exam do ok in classes go on 5 interviews at law firms that all seem to go well and then somehow you never get offered a spot--if your previous employer is giving you PRIVILEGED bad reviews and you don't have any experience-it seems like that could be tough to overcome-any thoughts?

Bob Smith: It would be pretty disturbing to be in a situation hypothetically described. You can remove him as one of your references. If you are asked by your potential employer, simply state that he and you had some disagreemnts and thus you prefer not to ask a letter. Instead you can ask your Ph.D. thesis comittee members, and/or other professors to write letters to support your application. Some people request to see the letter directly from your mentor, but not all the potential employers do that. When someone is committed to damaging other peopole's career, it is better stay away from such a person or people.

I got the letters saying how they place so many people, but really they make their money shifting EXPERIENCED people from 1 place to another. So they are just trolling for the career IP person that just took the USPTO exam and wants to switch jobs. I don't think there are any entry level placement agencies. The way the US economy is setup these days is a kind of inverse communism. Once you get in the club, your set. Getting over the wall is sometimes almost impossible esp. if you are a free thinker. Aside from the AIPLA, Chicago interview program-does anyone know of any good job fairs? |
| Hi viva - Have you checked out the Southeast IP job fair? I have no clue about when you need to register, but I think it's down in Atlanta. You might check it out. Here's the address: http://www.law.gsu.edu/careers/sipjf/
