Difference b/t biology and biological sciences?

According to this silly document, there is a difference between biology and biological sciences. My university (a top 50 public) only offers a degree in "biological sciences". Therefore, I don't qualify to register for the patent exam under Category A.  
 
Luckily, I qualify under Category B. Still...this is very stupid.
 
Why the distinction? Some universities call it biology while others call it biological sciences. Huh
 
Maybe I'm missing something here.
