I'm a 2L in law school also with a PhD in material science. The hardest part of having a material science degree is trying to explain to firms the type of work you can do. Most firms are looking for a CheM or EE, so when you are a MSE they are cautious because a MSE was not what they were looking for. Small firms are the worse about it. Most firms with other PhDs though understand what material science likely consists of.
