Not american citizen, on job visa. Patent bar exam

I am not an american citizen or permanent resident; I am currently working on a job visa in US (H1B) in a ip firm as a patent engineer.  
 
I was wondering whether I can appear in the patent bar exam and be a registered patent agent. Any help? Thanks in advance.

If you are a patent engineer, and your employer wants your duties to include drafting applications then I think you can clear the immigration status hurdle.
 
Assuming you meet the educational and character requirements, you can take the exam, and upon passing you would get a limited recognition to prosecute applications for your employer.  You could not get a registration number or be registered as a patent agent.
